Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program Scholarship Benefits

The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship generously provides the following benefits:

  • Round-Trip Air Travel: You will receive economy class air tickets between your home country and the host university at the beginning and end of your study program, along with a US $500 travel allowance for each trip.
  • Tuition and Insurance: The scholarship covers tuition for your graduate program and the cost of basic medical insurance available through the university.
  • Monthly Allowance: You will receive a monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including accommodations, food, and books. The amount depends on the host country.

Note: The scholarship covers the graduate program duration or two years, whichever is less.

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the JJ/WBGSP, you must:

  1. Be a national of a World Bank member developing country, as listed here.
  2. Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country.
  3. Be in good health.
  4. Hold a bachelor’s degree earned at least 3 years before the application deadline.
  5. Be employed in development-related work in a full-time position at the time of the scholarship application. You should have at least 3 years of paid development-related employment since earning a bachelor’s degree, acquired within the past 6 years from the application deadline.
  6. Be admitted unconditionally (except for funding) to one of the JJ/WBGSP participating master’s programs, located outside your country of citizenship and residence, by the scholarship application deadline. Admission letter must be uploaded before submitting the scholarship application.
  7. Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, staff of the World Bank Group, or a close relative of the aforementioned.
