Background of the New Polytechnic Overseer
Dr. Obarkapo Samuel James, whose distinguished career in academia spans decades, was born on the 3rd of September, 1962. He comes from Ughelli-North Local Government Area of Delta State and has been a pivotal part of the institution since the 15th of August, 1994, when he first assumed duty as a Lecturer II in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
With a robust educational foundation, Dr. James holds a Bachelor of Education degree from 1985, a Master of Science degree from 2007, and a Doctorate in Mathematics which he received in 2016. These qualifications were obtained from the esteemed University of Benin, University of Jos, and Nasarawa State University, Keffi, respectively.
Professional Milestones and Contributions
Throughout his tenure, Dr. James has ascended to the rank of Chief Lecturer, a testament to his expertise and dedication to the field. He is also an esteemed member of various professional bodies, including the Mathematical Association of Nigerian (MAN), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), and Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS).
His scholarly contributions have not gone unnoticed, with numerous publications in reputable journals and active participation in conferences, seminars, and workshops. His professional prowess was instrumental in his roles as Head of Department, Mathematics and Statistics, Dean of the School of Applied Sciences, and Director of NASPoly Consult.
Recognition and Appointment
The 9th Governing Council, recognising Dr. James’ administrative acumen, approved his appointment as Deputy Rector, Academic, on the 15th of June, 2022. His appointment as Polytechnic Overseer is a natural progression of his demonstrated leadership abilities.
Dr. James is celebrated for his strong academic and administrative leadership, excellent human relations, and positive managerial attributes—all crucial qualities for guiding the polytechnic forward.
