Application Essentials and Procedure

Minimum General Requirements

To qualify for any postgraduate programme at UNIZIK, candidates must possess a minimum of five credits, including English Language and four other relevant subjects at one or two sittings from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or TC11 (Faculty of Education only). These requirements are essential, and applicants are advised to check departmental requirements on the university website at spgs.unizik.edu.ng to ensure compliance.

Specific Admission Requirements

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes

  • For University Graduates: Those with first-degree classification and a FCGPA of 1.51 and above on a 5-point scale.
  • For Polytechnic/Monotechnic Graduates: Holders of a Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit.

Master’s Degree Programmes

  • University Graduates: Applicants must hold an appropriate degree in the proposed field of study with a minimum FCGPA of 2.50 on a 5-point scale or a minimum of 45% for universities that do not use FCGPA.
  • For Unclassified Degrees: A minimum overall score of 60% is expected.
  • Holders of Postgraduate Diploma: Must have an FCGPA of 3.00 and above (on a 5-point scale).

MPhil/PhD and Doctor of Philosophy Programmes

  • MPhil/PhD Candidates: Must hold a master’s degree in the proposed field of study with an FCGPA of 3.20-3.49.
  • PhD Candidates: Must possess a master’s degree with a minimum FCGPA of 3.50 or a minimum of 60% for non-FCGPA universities. For PhD in Clinical Oncology, a MBBS and MSc in related disciplines are required.

Programme Durations

The duration of the postgraduate programmes varies from two to fourteen semesters, depending on the level (Diploma, Masters, MPhil/PhD, PhD) and the mode of study (full-time or part-time).

How to Apply

The application process is streamlined and digital:

  1. Initial Application: Complete the application form online at https://apply.cpgs.unizik.edu.ng.
  2. Email Verification: Validate your account through the link sent to your email.
  3. Payment of Application Fee: Pay the application fee online using Credo (for local students) or Paystack (for international students).
  4. Completion of Application: Follow the step-by-step guide to complete your application.
  5. Submission of Academic Transcripts: Ensure your transcripts are sent to the Secretary, College of Postgraduate Studies before the deadline.

PhD applicants are required to upload a proposal of not more than five type-written pages, including details such as the proposed department, topic, and methodology.

Key Dates

  • Sale of Forms: Begins 28th February 2024 and ends on 3rd September 2024.
  • Submission Deadline: All application forms must be submitted by 3rd September 2024.
  • Transcript Submission: Deadline for transcript submission is 9th September 2024.

Candidates will be invited for a Screening Test and Proposal Defense, the date of which will be communicated in due course.
